Printing the sheets

Print at 100 percent scale, never fit to page: these are full size templates and a scaled print is worthless. Check the printed ruler mark on the first sheet with a real rule before cutting any glass. Tape the tiles together on the registration marks on a flat surface, and cut one spare copy if you intend to cut the paper templates up for came work.

Rebuilding a pattern

If your opening changes or you switch technique, the same pattern can be regenerated at a different size within its declared range at no extra cost, from the contact page, quoting the email address used at checkout.

What the piece map is for

The numbered piece map is the sheet you work from once the glass is out. Every piece carries a number, so a shape that has been ground, washed and set aside can still be placed without guessing which of two similar diamonds it was. Keep the map on the bench rather than in the folder: the moment a panel is half cut, the outline alone stops being enough to tell one piece from its neighbour. The suggested cutting order in the same folder matters most on radial and banded patterns, where cutting out of order leaves a long fragile run of glass supporting the pieces still to come.

If a download will not start

The ZIP appears on this page immediately once payment is confirmed, with no wait on an email and no account to create. If a link has stopped working, write from the contact page quoting the email address used at checkout and the order will be matched to it. Save the ZIP somewhere of your own as soon as it downloads: a pattern you keep locally is one you can reprint years later without needing anything from this site, and reprinting is common, because paper templates get cut up, marked, and soaked at the grinder.

Free pattern and rebuilds

The free pattern needs no order at all and lives on the Pattern Sizer page, generated at the width you enter, with the same checks applied as the paid patterns. For a pattern you already own, a rebuild at a different panel width within its declared range, or for the other cutting technique, costs nothing: ask from the contact page with the email address used at checkout, and say which size and which technique you want, since the cutting margin differs between foil and came and is applied before the file is generated.

Set up the download before you open the ZIP

Use a desktop or laptop if possible. A phone can store the ZIP, but it often hides the extracted PDF files inside a downloads app, which makes printing harder. Allow at least 50 MB of free space for the ZIP and the extracted folder, even though many pattern files are smaller. Keep the original ZIP unchanged, then work from the extracted copy.

Create one job folder with the order name, the panel width, the panel height, and the technique in the folder name. A useful format is pattern name, 24x36, copper foil. Put the ZIP, the extracted PDFs, your printed check sheet, and any notes in that same folder. If you later ask for a rebuild, this folder name gives you the main facts without opening several files.

Download the ZIP once to your computer, not directly to cloud print software.
Extract the ZIP before printing. Do not print from the compressed ZIP preview.
Open the sheet PDF in a PDF reader that shows scale options clearly.
Print only page 1 first, then measure the printed check mark.
If the check mark is correct, print the remaining pages with the same settings.

For storage, use a local folder plus one backup location. A USB drive, external drive, or cloud folder is enough. The important point is that the saved copy is under your control, because workshop paper copies usually become dirty, cut, wet, or marked within a few hours of use.

Equipment, page sizes, and measuring tolerances

The files are intended for ordinary home or office printing, but accuracy depends on the printer driver and paper handling. Before glass is cut, measure with a steel rule, not a cloth tape. A cloth tape can stretch enough to create a visible error across a wide panel.

When joining tiles, start from a central sheet or a straight outside edge, not from a random corner. Align the printed registration marks first, then check that long pattern lines continue smoothly across the seam. If the marks align but a line appears stepped by more than 1 mm, stop and recheck that the page was not rotated, curled, or printed with a different scale setting.

Frequent file and print mistakes, with recovery steps

If the ZIP opens but the PDFs seem missing, check whether your computer extracted the folder into the same downloads location under a similar name. On some systems the extracted folder opens behind the downloads window. Search the pattern name or search for PDF files modified today.

If the page prints too small, the usual cause is fit to page, shrink oversized pages, or a borderless photo setting. Cancel the job, return to the print dialog, choose actual size or 100 percent, and print page 1 only. Do not continue with the rest of the sheets until the ruler mark is correct.

If the tiles were taped and then found to be wrong, do not try to stretch the paper into position. Paper distortion creates uneven piece margins. Cut through the tape at the bad seam, realign the nearest two registration marks, and retape. If several seams are wrong, reprint the affected row instead of forcing the assembly.

If the glass list does not match the colors you intend to use, treat it as an area guide, not as a purchasing instruction. Combine or split colors on your own copy of the map, then total the changed areas before cutting. For general account and download questions, use the FAQ before sending a rebuild request.

Special cases in the workshop

For came work, keep an uncut master sheet. The cut paper templates can lose 1 mm or more at corners after trimming, soaking, or handling at the grinder. A clean master lets you check any doubtful piece against the original outline.

For textured glass, mark the direction on the map before cutting the first piece. Use arrows for grain, ripple, or streak direction. A 2 inch piece can look correct on the bench and still look reversed when installed beside pieces from the same sheet.

For mirrored or back painted glass, confirm which side faces the viewer before tracing. If the pattern is flipped in the shop by mistake, labels may end up on the wrong face. Mark front on the assembled paper pattern and on the reference map.

For very large panels, assemble and check the paper in sections of 8 to 12 sheets. Tape those sections together only after each section has passed its own scale check. This reduces accumulated drift and makes it easier to replace one bad page without rebuilding the whole layout.
